SAME DOES NOT EQUAL CHANGE

Once upon a time, I had a client that had a good business. She had good programs/services. Her clients liked working with her and she loved what she did. Yet, she wanted more. She wanted to upgrade her programs. She wanted to work with another level of clientele, and she wanted to increase her income. All were achievable goals because she had laid a solid foundation. She was an expert in her field, she was respected and trusted, and most importantly she delivered results.

So as usual, my mind starting racing and creating ideas, solutions, and strategies. I did a complete SWOT of her business to find what was working and created a plan for increase and efficiency. I laid out a SMART strategy with goals, objectives, timelines, and assignments. I figured out a new pricing model that not only increased her pricing (which she had never done) but also included new benefits that a different clientele she desired was seeking. And then I waited…I waited for her to execute.

I waited for her to start. I waited for her to implement this strategy that she requested…and then crickets. No movement for a week. No movement for a month. No movement in an entire quarter. Oh, wait…did I forgot to mention I hate complaining and then not creating and implementing a solution? See I understand being frustrated. I can even relate to venting…but I can only listen and repeat the same thing without taking action for a very limited amount of time. So of course I reached out and asked, "what the heck is going on?" And without hesitation her response was I'm too busy.

With a deep sigh and a very dramatic eye roll, I responded "alrighty then." See, I have never understood people who say one thing and do the complete opposite. The reason is that that type of thinking doesn’t make sense. And the reason is that your words and actions are not in alignment, yet you are expecting a different result. You can't say you want to elevate but never create and implement a strategy. You can't say you want a higher caliber of clientele, but never build out programs and services to attract them. You can't say you want an increase in income but be too scared to increase your pricing and/or at the very least charge appropriately.

In brief, you cannot keep repeating the same actions day after day, month after month, and year after year all the while complaining that "ain't nothing changing." If you want different, you gotta DO something different. If you want more, you have to figure out the strategy to maximize your time, money, and energy. If you want to be in a different place, have a healthy body, or even learn a new skill…YOU are the only one who can make that happen.

Yes, I know you are "busy." However, "busy" is not the same as PRODUCTIVE. Once produces and the other exhaust you. I know change is hard. Yet, hard is a matter of perspective. Struggling is hard and so is growth, so choose your hard. I know new is scary, but regret is permanent so go on go for it!

Regardless if you have a business or not, you can apply this strategy to all areas of your life and if you stay consistent, move in faith instead of fear, and trust your instincts, you'll start to see the changes you desire.
